Downtown Santa Cruz Library Mixed Use Building

New development for the city of Santa Cruz includes: a new construction library, multifamily housing, commercial space, and parking garage Located in downtown Santa Cruz.

Alter Consulting Engineers serves as project mechanical, plumbing and controls engineer of record for the library portion of the new building. The library will be conditioned by a hydronic perimeter system and a displacement ventilation system serving interior zones. Both systems source heating and cooling from a library dedicated four-pipe, heat recovery, air-to-water heat pump.

In addition the building will feature electronically actuated operable windows to enable natural ventilation and free cooling. The building's new HVAC, natural ventilation, and electrical energy monitoring systems have been designed to integrate into the City's existing facilities energy management system.

The library has been designed to operate as a zero net energy building, all annual library site energy use will be offset by the libraries new rooftop PV system.
